Muriel-Fowler1-275x300.jpg

Muriel is the choir director of the LGN Community Choir and has oversight of the organisation of the choir and its musical activities. The choir is fortunate in having a professional Musical Director, a Deputy MD in addition to two accompanists. Within the choir there are other ensembles such as the ‘Men of the LGN’ and a newly formed ‘Ladies of the LGN’ as well as numerous smaller groups, ensembles, a ukulele group and other Interest groups. In addition Muriel has recently started the ‘Friends of the LGN’ who will hopefully, support and assist the 90 strong choir.  Innovative and varied concert programmes, often involving children as well as musicians in the wider community, have been the trade mark of the LGN who receive acclaim from audiences wherever they perform.

As an accomplished pianist with significant experience working in the field of music  education Muriel’s leadership style is enjoyed by all and allows each member to grow and improve at their own pace. Muriel studied piano and oboe at the Royal Manchester College of Music before embarking on a successful career in teaching. She has conducted adult and young person’s choirs, bands and orchestras and arranged music workshops, festivals and other community music events. She has also been the MD of several Gilbert and Sullivan operettas and numerous Musical Reviews and shows as well as being a performer in her own right with solo performances and recitals in the North West.

Having retired from full-time teaching Muriel now works as an Independent Educational Consultant working through Universities and Local Authority Music Hubs
